De flora van Westerwolde
Afgelopen jaren heeft Bauke Roelevink onderzoek verricht naar het voorkomen en de verspreiding van de in het wild levende plantensoorten binnen het Natuurnetwerk Nederland van Westerwolde. Afgelopen week heeft hij dit project afgerond. In dit blog vertelt Bauke Roelevink over het onderzoek en de resultaten.
Donderdagmiddag 27 september werd tijdens een bijeenkomst in Smeerling (Z.O.-Groningen) het project ‘De flora van Westerwolde’ afgerond. Hoewel het oorspronkelijk de bedoeling was alleen een lijst met namen van planten te maken die in geheel Westerwolde groeien, is door de omvang van het gebied dit al snel beperkt tot de Ecologische Hoofdstructuur (EHS) van Westerwolde (de naam EHS is de laatste jaren door de overheid veranderd in Natuur Netwerk Nederland: NNN)
Werkwijze en resultaten
Alle beschikbare gegevens zijn ingevoerd in de Nationale Database Flora en Fauna (NDFF) en zijn nu voor iedereen toegankelijk via de site: verspreidingsatlas.nl.
Al snel werd duidelijk dat deze gegevens ook geschikt waren voor het maken van een vergelijking tussen de perioden 1970-2000 en 2000-2017. Er zijn 14 begroeiingstypen vergeleken zoals bijvoorbeeld natte-bossen, droge heide, etc. Maar ook de trends van Rode Lijstsoorten, doelstellingen en de resultaten van de reeds uitgevoerde inrichtingswerkzaamheden binnen de EHS van Westerwolde.
De planten geven een signaal af dat de inrichting van de EHS succesvol is geweest; het aantal plantensoorten is toegenomen, waaronder ook de Rode Lijstsoorten. Een Rode Lijst is een publicatie van de Rijksoverheid waarin aangegeven wordt hoe het met een bepaalde soortgroep gaat (welke soorten zijn bedreigd of zelfs verdwenen en welke niet). Er zijn ook planten die het moeilijk hebben zoals Kruipbrem, Hondsviooltje, Hengel, Klokjesgentiaan en Blauwe knoop.
Het project
Het project was een persoonlijk initiatief en geen opdracht. Met plezier heb ik er in mijn vrije tijd ongeveer 3½ jaar aan gewerkt. Zo’n project doe je niet alleen. Veel personen en organisaties hebben een bijdrage geleverd. Het zou een rapport worden, maar door het enthousiasme van de vormgever is het een boek geworden. Het is de bedoeling het boek in pdf-vorm voor iedereen toegankelijk te maken via de website floron.nl. Het boek is aangeboden aan de voorzitter van de Gebiedscommissie Westerwolde met het verzoek de bestuurders, die lid zijn van deze commissie, te stimuleren de conclusies en aanbevelingen in eigen gelederen te bespreken.
Hopelijk draagt het boek bij om initiatieven te ontwikkelen, waardoor de inrichting van de EHS succesvol blijft of zelfs nog een groter succes kan worden.
